Does anybody know what the difference is between a Scheid Lightning turbo and a standard S400?

THe new lightning chargers are based off of Garretts. Personally they are not as robust as borgs. I know a guy that was running the garret and he only got a year out of it. I confirmed this with Van Haisley. Standard s400 has limited turbine housing options and bolt patterns. Scheid made some of their chargers to be direct bolt to the manifold.

Forgot to mention, Have to get a special elbow for the compressor discharge, and then have to have a special downpipe. Standard S400's won't work with a hx40 downpipe.

What would you use for the downpipe on an s400?

The smallest s400 discharge I have seen is like a 4 3/8" Instead of the HX40 style.

Well I don't know where you can get a downpipe with that on it. I think the third gens might have something on them that might work. I know on a second gen I had to buy a flange and clamp and weld it to my existing downpipe.

No you will need a new oil line and then a elbow for the compressor discharge. The s400's have a oringed vband discharge. It is approxiamately 4.25" It can be done, just got to run around and get the parts. PM with what yoru wanting to do and all, I might be able to offer some suggestions.

i had a lot of problems finding a downpipe for my s400. i had to go to a mack truck dealership and find something close. it seems to be much flatter then a hx40 style. anyway, it still leaked and i had to make a gasket out of sheet metal to seal it. pain.

several of my friends run the scheid charger. VERY nice charger and my experience is it is much better than a s400, and easier to install. problem is the price.

Im thinking of maybe pulling in the Former Super Street class if it is indeed a single 3" no bushing class. Any details on this charger in the 3" version from Haisleys or Schied? Right now I am running a HTT Sled Puller 66/Super 4C combo and am thinking of selling them off as a whole unit for the single if I decied to pull down there. Am I going to see more benifits going with the single or less? I have heard they are a bit easier on the longitivity of the engine but thats just what I have heard.

There is an HX60 with 3.0" inducer machined to a 17cm housing for sale in the classifieds FWIW.

I wish there were some affordable ball bearing turbos out there that would spool like the stocker and support 5 bills...

Aren't the Scheid Lightning's ball bearing?

Some of them are.

You can go to a truck exhaust supplier that carries turbo flanges and find one to work then fab your own downpipe with a couple of 45* bends. The local truck place I go to must have 40 different turbo outlet flanges on the shelf.
