Hey guys, Ive got a buddy lookin at a 92. Could you tell me about the pumps on these trucks. Like, which pumps are best and how to identify em and such. I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Also, are the pumps on 12 valves all interchangeable?

89-91 = non intercooled with 3spd autos
91.5 -93 = intercooled with 3spd non-lockup autos.

The rest is pretty straight forward with a little searching.

91.5 to 93 had over drive non lockup. turn up the pump a little and easily get 20 mpg

Werent there other pumps on the 94+ trucks though? How do you tell the difference? Is there a little plate on them?

Ok well thats good to know. I thought I read somewhere that some didnt have P's. Oh well. Thanks Forrest!

Yea, thats what I was thinking, and telling him.

Hes just now getting into diesels and starting to study and learn.

You can put a p pump motor in a first gen and save about 1000 pounds. The only parts that need to be changed are upper hose outlet, flexplate, adapter & fan blade.

6 to 7 hundred is not a good deal:what:

I think he just mistook your 6 or 700 HP statement as 6 or 700 $.
Yeah what he said . :bang
For that kind of horsepower a 2nd gen p-pump motor would be best 96-98 standard shift would have the best pump but it has a 5spd which is fine for some uses but others an automatic is better. I parted out 2 trucks and thats how I ended up with the 89 with a p-pump motor in it Rich
