Scratches on Glass

Thanks. I dont know if i want to play with a grinding glass wheel though.... LOL

I have heard that toothpaste will polish out glass, dunno if it works or not, I had bad scratches in the windshield of the goat when I bought it, before I could try anything that windshield met a rock that didn't like it LOL

You buff scratches out of glass just like you buff wet sanding scratches out of clear.

If you want to do this yourself get a high speed electric buffer (1000-1500 rpms should be sufficient) , a wool compounding pad (NOT a polishing pad) and rubbing compound.

I prefer Presta Ultra Cutting Creme but to each his own.

The trick with glass is heat build up so I would not buff the same piece of glass for more than 10 or 15 seconds at a time to ensure it doesn't shatter. If you need someone to watch and call time for you so be it.

Glass Polishing Kit For Deep Scratches
Remove Deep Scratches From Glass - Now you can recondition deeply scratched automotive glass and save the replacement costs. This abrasive system literally grinds away imperfections until scratches disappear. Works with your 4 1/2" or 5" air angle grinder set at 2000 rpm. WARNING: This System Removes Glass. Keep Glass Wet With Water and Spinning Abrasives Moving Across Entire Surface to Avoid Heat Build-Up and Optical Distortion. Includes: Self-adhering hook and loop pad, coarse, medium and fine abrasives, Pro Glass Polishing Kit (40011) and instructions.

As you can see from the above description their magic specialty kit is nothing but a compounding kit.

While I'm not sure what they are using for compound but the part about keeping the glass wet to keep it cool is good. This will work with Presta because their products are water based but if you try this watering trick with something like 3M's oily compounds you will make a mess.

If you go the compound route crack open the lid of the compound and if it smells like petroleum don't use water as lubricant...just go slow and take many breaks.
