So I just got my CDS 5k in (boy do I need it!!!) Well it runs fine but i cant get the idle set right to save my life!

For some reason it wont go between 1500 RPM and not running. My idle set screw is all the way down and not even touching the arm. Ive tried adjusting the throttle linkage but it to avail.

Do i need to take 1 click out of the spring or put on into it? Befoe I put in the springs, my idle was right around 750RPM and it was right were I wanted it.

Try taking a click out of each side and see if it makes any difference. With 5Ks these things can be a pain to set the idle on. Mine is the same way.

I got mine to idle around 750, but it will still surge randomly to about 1500 and stay there.

Don't be too surprised if it's never terrribly stable. I love it though!!

I got it to sit at 1000 rpm once. Tried backing it back down, and that didnt work.

Also now for some reason I got to pump the pedal just a bit to get it started. Not a huge deal, but still annoying!

What do you need it to idle for??? I thought you never took ur foot of the floor!!! JK

They can be a pain. Mine idles fine but its touchy from 1K to 1800RPM...

I had a hell of a time trying to get my set of CDS 5ks to idle right as well. I have 4ks in it right now and am gonna try them again with some more shims possibly

Went out and took a few clicks off both sides and it idled just fine! Might auctually take a few more out later.....maybe.

Just had to fine tune it by adjusting the throttle linkage, but it idles fine. unfortunatly havent taken it out on the road......dont have the down pipe connected yet and hot air straight on the firewall is NOT a good idea!!!

Did that on mine, went from .025 to .040 then to .060 on the shims and had it idling ok but a little too much drop when I put it in gear, it was on th edge so to speak. A little better responding than 4K's at initial plus 2 but no night and day, one thing is for sure, they are a PITA.

the more I read about 5k's the less I want them... Pretty much a bad idea if you don't sled pull? I'd love to have a "right now" response from 1200+.. but not if it comes with all these headaches..

WOW!:what: This is the first bad things I've ever heard about CDS kits, usually everybody else it is having bad problems with everyone else's kits.

We need to get Zach McVey in here to help you guys. I gotta call him tomorrow anyways I'll see what I can do. ;)

I did a search earlier and found the same problems from the CDS kits from threads in the past..

Im not haveing a problem with the springs, just setting the idle....took about 5min and its all fine now.

They are pretty darn easy to install, come with VERy good instructions and I hope they fuel hard to 5,000 and Ill be VERy happy with them!

I've had the easiest time of all gsk's with the cds 5k kit but for what it's worth I have a non-benched 887 pump with the supposed lighter stock 215 pump governor assembly. I've never run a 5k in non-215 hp pumps so can't comment on them there. Have run 4k and 3ks in a 180 and once again, the 5ks were easier for me albeit I gained quite a bit of experience now compared to my day's of the 180 pump. Good luck.

I don't think it is there kit as I have an Industrial kit too and they act and perform the same, I think it is my pump and the fact that it has been bench tuned with 4K's in it, even CDS told me that this might be a an issue.

I put a set in Brian Carters' 12V and I had no problems.

CDS put them in my pump when it was on the stand...idles PERFECT. Better than my old 95 does with the 3k kit (and 355K miles:D)

I'll never have anything other than a 5K again more than likely!
Chris

Also alot of guys sled pullin that are using these have manual transmissions and dont have to get two happy mediums with it idling in Neutral and while in gear with a tight converter.

Thats my problem, my pump is tuned with this guys 4ks and the 5ks would not work hardly at all idle was 1500+ or nothing . I installed the 4ks last night and turned enough clicks that I got up to 5k with them and idle is perfect , may let Zak tune my pump this winter . But for the most part a stock non benched pump should b ok with CDS

It even says that when you get the kit. They were designed to have the stock springs taken out and the 5k droped right in.

Kinda odd there so im going to take a 2800 RPM pump and turn it 5k with just springs??? It may get it there but it wont hold it

speaking of taking a 2800rpm or less even motor/pump and modding it has anyone had any big issues, with valves, or anything internally with the motor due to running 50 or 60 even 70psi other then head gaskets, and maybe the ocasional bent push rod or something, because my buddy is saying im gonna blow my truck up, and it won't last long how its setup right now, but he comes from the world of mustangs.
