shift problems with smarty

a buddy of mine has a 2001 dodge ctd bought a smarty last monday has had it on the truck for a week it shifts fine 1-2 but 2-3 it false neutrals and then shifts into 3rd just fine doesnt slam into 3rd just revs up then goes in but its not slipping and it only does this when the smarty is on if you take the smarty off and run it stock it shifts totally fine no problems at all any ideas what to do??????????????????????
