Is there suposed to be a shim for the starter with the 3850 dd from south bend? i have been told by one person i trust no and another person i trust yes so i dont know what to think. that is the only thing stoping me from a completed truck sooo if yes where do i get one if no rock on party time. This is for a 5 speed

some of the 3850's requier the spacer and some dont it depends on the flywheel that it came with might just place your starter up there with the bell houseing off and go from there and call peter

I had the same dilema......look at the flywheel they gave you. the ring gear should be almost flush with the back of the flywheel(side nearest the engine) for the 5 speed.

If it is set in the middle of the thickness of the flywheel, then you need a spacer. that is how the 6 speed is stock.
