What are the possible side effect of running too much cetane??

I've come to the conclusion with the help of a good friend of mine that I might have too much cetane in my tank and causing detonation at high rpm and high cyl pressures...any thoughts?

It detonates with and without Smarty and MP-8 hooked up.

Sounds similar to Tritons rattle down low but mine is above 35psi and 50% throttle.

im no expert (by any means) im more just curious than anything else.

whos diesel are you using? are you using and diesel additices? have you checked your overhead?

you dont have any electronics hooked up so you cant be over timing it... hua this is kinda weird...

Do you have an idea of the rating your fuel carries now?

No I don't know for sure but allow to elaborate since I forgot to mention how I think I got too much cetane.

I am running a B20 mix combined with 3-4 times the recomended dose of Power Service in this tank.

I am in the understanding that B20's cetane is in the 50 point range, combined with too much Cetane boost from the PS puts my cetane around the 55+ point range.

Power Service is awfully hard on fuel systems. I wouldn't recommend anything except the 911 that they have.

Prolly because it doesn't help with lubrication at all...and with the new ULSD alot of people think it's a big issue, and may well be.

The best thing you can do is run about a 2 - 5% bio mix. It's better for lubricity than any additive you can buy...

Yup, power service doesn't lubricate enough. Wouldn't catch me anywhere near the stuff

Diesel Power Mag recomended PS. What do you recomend for an additive? Is an additive nessasary with a FASS or Air Dog?

i run PS for the cetane boost, and the proper amount of lucas oil injectot cleaner/ upper cylinder lubricant (yellow stuff in a clear bottle), and i like the combo. the truck si really unhappy when i dont run the combo.

Power Service is about advertising. If anyone pays enough any magazine will give them a space.

I like Howes or Stanadyne with a Biomix. Alot of the diesel pumps around Illinois here have bio in it. Illinois gives a huge tax cut to the staions buying biomix.
My local thortons has stickers on their pumps stating that their diesel contains up to 10% bio in it.
I know when I use Thortons diesel my 12 valve runs quieter.

Back to the cetane subject, once you get past about 55 you won't get any benefit or see any changes to combustion as cetane increases. The higher the cetane the easier the fuel starts to burn when injected, to a point (which occurs around cetane of 55). High cetane causes less not more "detonation" aka fuel knock

Found out it wasnt too much cetane...I had the two nuts on the manifold that hold the turbo on, missing and creating a HUGE exhaust leak at higher DP causing what sounded like timing rattle.
