What effects do they have other than the obvious noise reduction?

Specifically turbos that have the ring permanent or semi permanent in the housing.

Noise is some of it the other reason is to align the oxygen and nitrogen molecules in the air so that they can be chopped into even lengths by the turbo and therefore burn more efficiently.:shake:

A turbo chops molecules? Seems like the release of energy created by that would be hard on the turbo...

I've read that they keep air flowing smoothly as it transitions down. Like a forcing cone in a shotgun. Which ironically not all the "experts" there agree if it makes a difference how long/short/smooth your forcing cone is.

But I'm no turbo expert, just some guy that reads when he's bored.

well

someone do back to back dyno runs with a silencer ring in an hx35 and report back

What Im wondering is:

By removing the ring and be default opening the MWE grove to straight air is it a gain?

With the ring in place the MWE has to get air that has to go through three 90* turns.

Looking at a HE351VE the ring is semi permanent, seems they went to some trouble to make it that way for a reason.

My take on it is that the noise is a result of turbulence in the air is it interfaces with the compressor blades. Improving the air's approach to the blades by way of air-foils and such improves the overall efficiency (See TAG, Silencer Rings, etc).

How far off are the silencer ring's effects from the effects of the velocity stacks we see on some of the big turbos at the track? :pop:

One guy on CF said he noticed like 2mpg better with it in than out.

I ran a TAG on a ksb-1. It made the turbo quieter but that's it. No difference in boost, mileage, egt's, or power.

I took my silencer ring out and it made my truck blow tons of smoke and i gained 65rwhp and got 56mpg. all while towing a d11 dozer and racing a corvette. my egts never got over 1000 either
