I'm in the same boat. I bought a new one, but I'd like to get the original fixed. I heard that II sells a different exhaust housing on the SB when it's used in their twin kit. I peaced my SB/480 with Source Automotive parts.
To the op, do you use an external gate?

Nope. Stock as can be bullet AFAIK, as it was bought used.
