More of the pulling guys have Sintered Iron clutches, so maybe y'all can help:

Got the SouthBend 3600# Dual Disc Sintered Iron installed Friday by a shop since I still don't have air or a tranny jack. Once it's installed, they back the truck out, and it squeeks when the clutch engages (just when the discs start touching). I call SouthBend, Drew says it needs to be broke in, that might fix the squeeling. I drive it a little, it all works fine, except for the squeek. I also noticed the truck vibrates much more at idle than it did stock, and it's very quiet at any pedal position (compared to the 12 button dd I had that rattled like hell). So now I've driven it 240 miles, working it in out all the time to get it to settle, still no change. Today, when I have the pedal pressed to the floor, it starts a grinding noise. It does it when the pedal is pressed to the floor, and when in neutral with no foot on the pedal. It's not all the time either, just every now and then.

This **** ain't right, that's for sure. I need y'all's opinions on it. Here's the video I took from my iphone. You can hear the squeek and the grinding noise in it.

sounds like a throw out bearing issue, could be caused by many things, just a bad one, faulty installment, bad arm. i would pull it back out.

Other than the little bit of squeak, it sounds like a DD clutch to me.

I had a DD in my 08, i'm telling you, this aint right. It was quiet the first two days, the grinding is new. The squeek has been there from the get go and has nt changed any at all. It was a brand new throw out bearing, and it looked identical to the old one i had from my 08.

It will squeek until you glaze the disc by slipping it. Dont worry about that. I dont know about your grinding issue but why would you put a clutch like that in that kinda truck? Are you going to pull?

Guess i'll wait until its good and broke in then slip it, see if the squeek goes away. Going to drag more than pull, its hard to shift a lever type compared to a diaphram, and buttons cant hold this power, much less more. The 3600# buttons dd on my 08 couldnt hold the 310 tune alone, so i figured i needed more grip for the new 350 tune and possible future upgrades. So SI it was, and its not too bad to shift, just hope it holds the torque.

my triple still squels even after several hooks to the sled sound good to me

My McLoed squeaks has from day 1 its got 45k miles on it and 30 hooks, its the nature of that style disk

Sounds completely normal to me. My Kenny's 3800# SI DD is noisy as hell, it squeaks when engaging and grinds when disengaged. As long as it isn't making noise in nuetral with your foot off the pedal I would say your aright.

Thanks for the help everyone,vI put more miles on it last night and slipped it pretty good this morning a few times, and I can already tell a difference. It barely squeeks anymore, the grinding is gone, and I can hear it chatter a little now with the pedal on the floor (like it's supposed to). I guess these SI's are like whiney hos, they need to be beat on a good bit and they'll straighten out.

I have a Haisley Street puller and it makes the same noise, just not as bad. I was told it was because of the inlay on the flywheel.

SI will always screech some think about it metal vs metal

Yep their made hold up under extream use, kenny told me that the inlay would wear out before the si disk would, thats what you get when you buy a bad a$$ clutch lol :st:

I had the squeek when I first installed my sintered clutch. One day a finger broke on the pressure plate and I swapped in a new finger style plate using the same sintered discs. They still looked brand new after 2 hooks! Since installing the new PP, I have no squeek at all, can't tell it is a sintered clutch. I have no idea what Peter did differently?
