Skid plate under transfer case.

There seems to be a skid plate at the rear of my transfer case on my '01 2500 SB QC 4x4. There is a cross member that it seems to be bolted to. Is that cross member needed for structural support? Or could I remove it? There is another one right in front of that, that the transmission is bolted to.

Reason I'm asking is I was thinking about using those bolt holes to mount a set of traction bars to.

Yes you need that crossmember, it helps to stiffen the frame and keep it from twisting. Now I see no problem with just getting longer bolts and going that route.
