Which is the better route.... buying a built tranny or getting a kit to build the stock tranny??? either or, what brand is the best to go with?

Either way is probably okay, depends on whether or not you have someone to do the rebuild for you or if you know what you're doing rebuilding an Allison. I put alto red eagle clutches and a triple disc converter in mine, seems to hold power fine but you could buy a built suncoast, ATS, or someone else's trans off the shelf if you don't want to mess with the rebuild time. $.02

the best deal i've found is the stage 5 built tranny from suncoast, what kind of power will these withstand??

Suncoast converter kicks in my truck...level ten trans shop in easton PA- not so good. Red alto clutches and transgo kit are holding 530/1050 ish street driving with no problem. Check out PATC, they also build ally's for reasonable price
