Iv did a little searching about a smarty over the years and i was not a big fan of one but never been around one really. From what i gather most times the smarty will lose hp on a dyno (not a stock truck).

But the ones that have them and like them say by the butt dyno it helps the bottom end out. And i have seen where some have said they got better mileage running a smarty.

I am wanting more bottom end that the tst doesnt have and want the smarty for the street and towing some also, not looking for the most power at the moment so i would like to try one if i can find one used.

My ? is which one should i get the older smarty or the s03?

I have read also where some have said they like the older one over the newer one, what do u guys think?

So the S03 is the only one for the 24v's?

Hu i thought they was a older version that had the same software as the catcher's ecm's had on them!

Maybe the guys i had read about them was talking about the software that smarty is working on that is suppose to be 4k rpm's!

BRE u must be right, i have always thought there was 2.

But after looking at some of the smarty dealers they just have one downloader for the 24v trucks.

My next ? is i would like 2 throw in a ts mvp later on, what do u set the smarty on fuel only or timing only?

I called ts a couple of times about the mvp and they told me it did not advance the timing on the pump but it did do duration!

I would think u would need the low end fuel of the smarty stacked with the mvp because the mvp doesnt fuel until like 10psi.

Does the smarty do dynamic timing or just duration?

I did some more searching and everyone that has stacked the 2 mvp and smarty have ran on even # on the smarty (fuel only).

To my knowledge the ts MVP is a timing only box.

The MVP is a timing only box so if you did get the smarty you'll have to run it without timing. I think you might want to go another route if your looking for more fuel since that is what holds the smarty back. It doesn't tap into your pump only alters ECM so you can only get so much additional fuel out of it. I believe the more common stack is a tst pm3 or comp which is a good fueling box and using the smarty for its timing capabilities. I have ran a smarty and they are somewhat adjustable and I have a friend who runs one with a tst comp and swears by it. I just switched to a quad because it was a little easier for me too tune and I got both fuel and timing, easier to change levels and tune while running for me. However the point I'm trying to make is a wire tap box will give you way more fuel then the smarty so maybe try your MVP with the tst comp or another fueling box or trade in the MVP for a fueling box and run the smarty for timing. Hope this helps

apples24v, tell you buddy to try a ts mvp. he will never buy another smarty.

tinkertoy, smarty used to have a catcher ecm but all that is sold now is the s03. if you want to run the tst/smarty/mvp stack the smarty has to be on even numbers only. i do not recommend doing this because the smarty and mvp will fight each other. i had the smarty/tst stack made good power but now with the tst/mvp stack i'll never go back!

Back when the Smarty first came out there was a S02 and then after a while they started making the S03. They are both for 98-02 24 valve vp44 trucks.

Yes Sir it does, as long as the software that has been downloaded on to the Smarty has it in it.

My Smarty is the SO2 version. I tryed an updated program a few years ago and had a few issues. I switched back to the origanal program and havnt jacked with it sense.
