Has anyone messed around with putting a midplate between the bell housing adaptor and bellhousing to stiffen everything up on a pulling truck? If a guy used a sheet of 1/4 aluminum would that space it out too much and mess with input shaft engagement?

I think most guys just weld aluminum brackets along the side of the adapter plate, then steel on the frame.

We have 1.5" solid square stock bolted to back of block about 12" wide right above the aluminum adapter. Go from there to frame with 1/2" hiems. Also is a good place for a dring for pulling motor.
