speedo issuses

I've put a 05 CR and 48re into a 02 f250 . To get the auto to shift I had to get a speed signal, so I got that from the ABS controller {Gy/Bl wire} I firstly just tapped into it but it still didn't work so I then cut the wire to the speedo so now I have lost my speedo but now it shifts.
My question is, Does anyone know a way in which to get the speedo working again?
Would putting a diode in the speedo wire help?
