Spooling with the parking brake?

I've always had issues with pushing through the brakes with spooling that charger at the line. I've tried pumping the brakes and that helps, but I still can't build as much boost as I'd like. Today just for the helluva it, I tried to spool it with the parking brake set. It worked great, the truck didn't move at all, even at 15psi. Then I just reasched down and released the parking brake and let off the brake pedal at the same time and it was like being shot out of a canon. My question is, can any of you think of a downside of using the parking brack to help the truck stay put?

That's the thing, I might be able to when hooked to the sled. I was just asking in case the weight of the sled still doesn't hold me back at the line. It's kinda hard to recreate being hooked to a sled when your in the driveway.

i dont see a problem might have to replace your shoes or whatever dodges use for parking breaks

ive tried it and it didnt work for me....mcintosh did it and it did work for him. i think its one of those things that if it works it works. i wouldnt be scared of it other than the fact of breaking cvs and axle shafts if your leaving in 1st gear. thats a lot of torque transfered to the driveline.

I'm trying leaving in 2nd this year. 1st gear seems to only last about 2ft anyway and then it shifts.

How did it not work out for you Matt?

Nope, It's got a 1057 suncoast converter in it and that's not gonna change anytime soon.

Then thats going to be a limiting factor in how big of a huffer you wanna run. You can only do so much with the brakes.

I pull in 1st gear only in 4 High, I stall up to about 2500 with just the footbrake at about 18 lbs of boost. Let off the brake and it lifts the belly of the sled about 8 inches, then it's like pulling a trailer... For a little while anyway.

my parking brake didnt hold any better than the regualr brakes on the truck....so i had no advantage. i would even contimplate leaving in 3rd gear. i get along real well doing that.

forget messing with the brakes to improve spool at the line... either start in a higher gear AND/or swap convertors. Good luck finding one with enough stall to light a larger charger and start in 1st and last more than a few hooks. I'm sure because I say it'll be hard to find, 10 will say they've got that, but I haven't seen many.

I'm talking about sled pulling in 4lo, obviously. Plenty have convertors that can stall to the sky in 4hi or 2wd in 1st gear. Not even close in 4lo.

I used the parking brake several times last year. I thought it helped, but only a little. Downside is, you look like a dork leaning left to release it. :bang

Ever wonder why you can build more boost in high gears than in low gears? It is cause the trans is slipping.
