Few days ago I was driving along and in 4th gear, it started squeeling.. So shifted into 5th, still did it.. So figured if it was the tranny I'd romp on it and find out real quick what's wrong! Long story short, pulled the tranny replaced the throwout bearing but still squeels. The only time it does it is under load. Does anyone have any ideas what this could be? Oh and also there is no grinding in any of the gears...

could it be a boost leak i know when you remove the factory fuel canister and dont put the bolts back in under load it will cause a squeeling noise since air is coming out between the valley and plenum

I just had a similar experience. I though at first it was my throw out bearing also.
Turns out it was the belt tensioner pulley. The bearing was wearing out and squeeling. New tensioner was $65.00.

Hope this helps.

I'll check that.. Maybe a piece of gasket finally blew out.. But it's weird that I've drivin it a thousand miles or so and just now started doing this...

Hey tony597fitter, can I purchase the idler pulley at napa or oriellys? Or is it a dealer item?

I had a couple of the springs on the AC clutch break, allowing the clutch face to constantly ride against the pulley causing a high pitched "sqeel". Replaced th AC clutch.

I had this same experience on my 01 it was the tensioner pulley it would only sqeel when i was lugging the truck

ok with the pulley, if you listened to the engine, did it sound as if it was coming from the passenger side towards the rear of the engine? i was outside listening to it earlier, and thats where it sounds like its coming from.. but my engine is kinda loud and i may be way off lol! also i did take the belt off and try to spin everything i could.. the pulley spun a little, but not as freely as say the alternator..

ok replaced the pulley, but still had the squeel.. so i figured id just try tightening bolts wherever i heard the sound coming from... low and behold, dang near all the bolts on the exhaust manifold were loose as he!! tightened them up, fired the truck up and no more squeel! :rockwoot: all i can say about this little adventure is luckily i didnt spend too much money trying to figure this one out! lol
