Alright fella's, long story short. I drive the truck home from work (97 12 valve auto), shut the truck off and go in the house. Nothing unusual for the last 4 months as far as starting. Get up the next morning, hit the starter.........CLICK. Damnit, another junk NAPA starter. Brand new when bought and not a reman. 7 Napa starters later and 1 Auto Zone the ***** still won't start, just loud clicks. So, I check relay's, ignition switch, grounds, battery cable's (by the way, all of the above mention part's are new) I have battery voltage at the starter post, but only 10 volts on the little ignition wire when you hit the key. Pulled battery post off and load test batteries, they are also new. So, I'm thinking maybe the flex plate is broke so I call good ol Phil Taylor and he send's me a brand new billet flex plate. Pull the tranny and I'll be damned it is NOT broken! By the way, engine turn's over fine by hand, tranny is also OK. I'm thinking it's gotta be something simple that I am overlooking. Doe's anyone have a clue as to what it might be? Or ever had one do this? I have also replaced the neutral safety switch for chit's and giggle's. Any thought's, or something I may have missed? I really like this truck alot, but that lighter and can of diesel is starting to look real good. Sorry so long but I didn't want to miss anything that I've already tried. Thank's, Gary

Yep, tried jumping at the starter. And when you hit the key to start the light's in the dash or radio do not get any dimmer. I forgot to add that! As I remember anything else I will add that to the list. Also, when each starter was returned they were tested. 4 of them were just straight up bad, and the rest were all marginal. I just can't believe that it's possible that I got that many bad starter's. But none of them sounded strong or turned very fast if they turned at all. Gary

just give it to me gary i need spare parts its prolly that screwachip u put on there lol

what brand battery? i know this is hard to believe, but i struggled with the same prob for over a yr and it ended up being the brand new batterys.......they even past the load test..... swapped them out for yellow tops and no probs since

Try running a new ignition wire from the starter to the plug in next to the drivers side battery. It may have a corroded wire inside the insulation. It may also be the one that goes from the plug in to the ignition switch. Ive also found corroded and loose connections in the bottom of the PDC.

Got the same issue with my 98 12v. My starter is just fine. Just want start even when jumped at the starter. I did notice that the fuel shutoff sylenoid didn't move when the key is turned on. But I'm deployed now and have to waot for awhile before I can tackle it again. Thinking of getting another truck and using the 98 as parts.

Your trusk is just a POS Gary. :hehe: I would try replacing the left rear blinker bulb, that might fix your problem.

Well fella's, it turned out that I had a 5 volt drop on the battery cable that goes from the battery to the starter. I had built a new cable and soldered the terminal on the positive side. And for some strange reason it didnt like that. I made another new positive cable and crimped the shiz out of it. It start's so fast now it has to idle down. So I have learned that just because something is new, go ahead and check it twice anyway's. Thank's for the idea's. Gary

Ive learned that finding junk starters from just about anywhere and rebuilding them is not hard at all. I have about 4 now that i am using to make 2 rebuilt ones. It works out cause i can have free starters for life. haha

On edit: i know you found your problem but Im just throwing that out there since i killed 3 starters and rebuilt them every time with my old one. So i have a brand new case around all the old parts minus a few things here and there. lol
