Ok had to put a new VP on the tow pig about two weeks ago. Left the pump wire untapped at my mechanic/friends advice plus my g/f was leaving in it the next day on a 4 hour trip.

So finally decided to hook the box back up this weekend using a new BD stealth cover that a nice guy on CF thru in when I bought his Quadzilla.

So with very little VP experience I followed BD's directions to a T! As soon as my test light lit up I turned one more half a turn, as I turned to grab the bag with the eye terminal and jam nut I heard a loud POP! I began checking to see what the cause of the noise might have been and noticed the tapping screw had forced its way back out of the plastic cover. I tried turning it back in and nothing but shavings coming out from around the screw.:what:

I pulled the cover back off the pump, and using a allen wrench it will screw back thru the cover. Still the cover back on the pump and again nothing but shavings?

I'm gonna call BD tomorrow and see what they have to say, but I'm guessing I will probably have to buy another one. Doubt they are going to replace this one because I didn't purchase it.

Anybody else have this happen to them? I followed all the directions specifcally to try and avoid something like this happening.:bang

Find a threaded insert.

Or drill it larger retap and make your own point.

Next time, don't tighten the jam nut so much.

That's not what happened Jamie, I never even got to the point of getting the jam nut out of the bag.

I was following the directions...turn the tapping screw down until you get light on a test light CHECK go one half turn more CHECK....turn to grab..POP! WTF was that?:what:

Thats exactly how it happened.

That's what my mechanic buddy suggested...not to keen on it because of my lack of skill with drill & tapping.

Or just buy a screw one size bigger.

I might try this....I just hate altering something from the way it was made. Especially when we're talking about something as reliable as a VP44. ;)

Drilling and tapping that will be a piece of cake. You could also mark where the screw needs to be, pull it out, epoxy it in. Then use the pump bolts to tighten it up.

Or just tap the wire itself. Any decent pump shop is going to see that you used a Stealth cover and void the warranty anyways. I've never had anything but trouble with the stealth covers myself. I just use good old solder and shrink wrap and tap it in right! Just some thoughts for ya Mark....

My pump shop asked if I was going to tap and sent me a different pump when I said yes, then told me to solder the wire or they wouldn't warranty it. http://www.o-f-i.com/

It must be one of the older covers. I just put one on a customer's truck. It had been "updated". Had a little nut on the bottom side so it didn't strip out like that.

Using the cover because my mechanic I bought the pump from told me the pump warrenty would be intact with stealth cover. Called BD today big surprise was basically told I'd have to buy another. Did suggest chasing the threads with a tap, when I asked what the thread pitch was they took my # and said they would call back. I called @ noon Central time...they never called back. Guess I'll be ordering a new cover from Blue Chip.

24 valve lmfao!!!!:bang:bang:shake:

Hey sleddy.....have a nice tall glass of STFU!:kick::hehe:

Just tap it out to whatever you want and go from there... Why buy it again when u already have it.

Had the same thing happen to me too when i was re instaling on my second pump. Just do what zstroken said worked for me hasnt come out still got a great conection to the pump. Its been 3,000 miles and counting.

Bought a tap to chase the threads with this afternoon. Now the tapping screw wiggles in the hole! :bang :bang :bang
The set screw holds it still so I'm going to try and install it again tomorrow night.
