been going on for a while in my 01. seems like whenever you hit a bump it does it or when your turning. thinking its the shaft on the column that need to be greased. i know on the chevys you can take the bolt out of the steering shaft and what we call at work "excercise" the steering shaft, which seems to take care of the problem. Wanting to see if anyone has ever ran into this on theres, and what they did to fix it.

dont have much play in the wheel. tightened the steering box up, replaced ball joints and everything else seems to be tight

i think the steering shaft just needs to be greased some how

I heard there is a plastic collar somewhere that breaks and makes the piping noise. My 98 did it but I never fixed it.

Hey, my truck is doing the exact same thing, the u-joints on bottom of shaft near steering box are right f***ed. I just havent gotten around to it yet. not sure if you can buy them or not? I imagin you have to buy complete shaft.
