steering wheel locked while driving!!

My friends steering wheel locked to the right while driving through a right hand turn at a low rate of speed. Once he came to a stop he was able to turn to the right but not left. after playing with the steering wheel a bit it appeared "ok" and continued driving. brought it to the dealer and said everything looks good, hasnt happened since but he feels uncomfortable driving it not knowing what could happen, any ideas? thanks....BTW it is a bone stock 95 ex cab long bed 12v 5spd 4x4.

He didnt happen to turn the key back just enough to make the lock catch did he? I would sure be uneasy driving too if mine did that.

seals in the gearbox going bad can do that. if one is worn, it can vent pressure instead of power assisting, making it near impossible to turn one way. not fun.
