Sterling vs d80

If your talking about the Sterling 10.5 (ring gear size) its a pile of ****!

I know MADDOG runs sterling in his rear for his Ford cummins truck that has well over 1200RWHP. Its seems to be holding it just fine with the extreme torture he has put it up to!:ft:

sterling pinions small cant handle sled pulling get a 14 bolt over a sterling any day! Dana 80 is 2nd strongest and a AAM axle is the strongest

I've busted the pinion more than once on the 10.5. It's just a newer version of the 10.25

Get a built Dana 80 with a spool/welded carrier and a set of 37 spline axles. That would be the strongest.

i saw a kid with under 500RWHP shatter a sterling at a local pull. it wasnt even that hopped up and it snapped and spit its guts, was pretty cool imo. gotta love carnage.

Sterlings are really good at  their parts.... plus there are way more parts out there for Dana and 14 bolt stuff... my $.02

horsepower doesn't break parts, and I'm pretty sure he doesn't sled pull with that thing, just drag race

hmm - i pulled mine all last year and no issues - however things will change this year for power so we will see
I've never seen a sterling break but i guess there is:what: always a first time for everything:ft:

Its sees a few pulls here and there this year it will be seein alot more but mainly its for import vette and cobra killin

I snapped the driver side shaft on my 10.5 Sterling with a lightweight 2wd street truck that dynoed a whopping 308 rwhp.

ive seen several Sterlings puke, kinda scares me since my g.f just jumped behind the wheel of my Superjunk.... and she hopes to make big power and keep it togther... haah

I broke my 10.5 sterling real good. I now have a D80 in the back of the pulling truck. Don't have enough hooks on it yet to determine if I made the right choice, but I know it is stronger than the Sterling. Bigger pinion, bigger shafts, etc...

Dana 80 is the way to go.

I've split carriers and twisted yokes off the Sterling 10.5, with a whopping 300 HP out of the PSD.

What a joke.

Updraded to a D80 35 spline from a Cab Chassis, with an ARB, and no problems...even with the Cummins.
