Just a quick question before i leave work and try to drive 20+ miles home.

Turning into parking spot this morning truck suddenly lost all power steering and the breaks went stiff.

Belt is good and fluid level checks in both.

Any idea before i leave and attepmt this?

Thanks, Justin

P.S. I looked around and couldnt find much.

Power steering pump craped out, or vaccume pump craped out. Or KDP fell out and took out the gear for the pump. Does it have fluid?

Fluid level was good untill i made it home where it then decided to leak it all out. Still have vaccume and all vaccume controlled items are working. I guess all that leaves is the PS Pump.

The hydro boost boost probably took a crap, also check the lines coming off the hydo boost that go down to the pump, if they are cracked and sucking air it can cause this also

Update: I changed both the power steering pump and the hydro booster. I have checked all the lines from top to bottom and I'm 99% sure all the lines are hooked up correctly. I still have the exact same issue as I started with and now when I go to bleed the system power steering fluid is spewing out of the top of the reservoir. Anyone with some insight on to what could be the issue and if maybe the system is just bleeding. Really confused here.

Thanks in advance.

Can one of the pressure lines coming outta the reservoir be clogged causing this?

Did you make sure the coupler to the power steering pump was good? They usually break when you're turning and hit something to jar it.

clogged lines could be a problem. Should have verified all lines were clear and clean before installing the new equipment.

I too had the same problem. I purchased my PS pump from O'Rielly and evidently their reman pumps are notoriously sh!tty. I returned that one and bought the borgeson (sp) high flow pump with the box and it works better than ever. Just my experience.

FYI just the borgeson pump alone is comparable, price wise, as those you buy at the parts house.

Thanks for the advise. Well today I went through and checked all the lines and end up replace both of the soft lines, The bigger line with the hydraulic fittings seemed to be fine. Tried bleeding the pump for about an hour and didn't seem to get anywhere. I can hear air coming outta the top of the power steering reservoir. Maybe it just had a lot of air but still no luck yet. Does it take awhile to bleed one of these systems.

I always jack the front up, keep level full, and do lock to lock turns slowly . This will bleed system and prevent pump damage

Unfortunatly rain has kept me from getting anything done but i was have one more quick question. How can you tell if the vacuum pump is bad. I just resealed the one on my truck for the second time during all this and made sure the power steering pump lined up and went into the coupler properly. Im just wondering because i believe its either the vacuum pump or i got a bad reman PS pump.
