Im curious what a stock Dana 80 with 3:55's will hold. I know the gears, axles and pinion will hold over 500hp. What about the spider gears in a limited slip unit? It seems the spider gears are the first thing i hear of breaking. Is this a problem in the limited slip units, or mainly the open differentials, or both? Thanks

Broke Spiders last year with about 375hp when sled pulling, it was really hookin to the earth. Just blew number two pulling with about 575 horse. The spiders are def the weekest link of the dana 80s. When they go if you don't stop quick its gonna take the rest of the rear out. Both of mine were limited slip units. This time I packed 2 extra clutch plates in it which made it solid locked all the time it seems. So hopefully this will hold the unit together.
