Looking to drop some egt's and get a lil sound from the stock exhaust on my 07. My buddy straight piped it all and to be honest it sounds like crap to me, just too loud and rhapsy w/ no tone. I was wondering if cutting out either the cat or the muffler worked and sounded good.

Only thing done to it is a Smarty.

I would just replace the muffler with a high flow one and leave the cat. See what that sounds like. You need to do some kind of air intake mod along with the muffler to really get any lower EGTs. But air intake and high flow muffler on mine were first upgrades. Sounded great, no drone, lowered EGTs a little and spooled the turbo a little quicker.

i've had many different and have found my favorite.
i had just a cat.
then just a factory muffler
then just straight pipe
5" turbo back straight pipe

my favorite setup is current:
factory everything with a MBRP straight thru muffler.
NO droan, no deep raspy, all turbo. sounds great.
no more headaches, no more vibrating. i love it.

I think taking off the factory muffler and leaving the cat sounds the best and is the cheapest

i meant i am currently running no cat but i do have on a MBRP muffler..

I'm running stock piping, but cut out the cat and put in a 4040 AERO Turbine muffler. I think it sounds sweet!! Has a really nice DEEP tone to it

I am also for no muff just a cat.... But I'm thinking about going to muff only no cat to see what it sounds like...

The cat is also more restrictive than the muff....I think
