I never had any problems with Big Red untill recently. Not sure what happened.

Got in the truck to move it one day and it fired right up and today it still fires right up and idles fine. I had a few codes thrown as follows P0236, P0237, and p1689. Now for the issue:

Once the truck starts and idles you push the peddle and it immediately jumps to 1300 rpm, let up on the peddle back to idle. Replaced the Map sensor and still had the p0236. unplugged the Edge Drag Comp and plugged in factory plug and could clear the P0236 and P0237. So Yes Edge Drag Comp is blown Again!!! Unplugged all Edge connectors and Still have P1689 and still only have idle and 1300 rpm that's it. Checked VP connector and all's good.

Now for the wild. All these issues happend after we had a very close lighning strike. I mean so close that it blew the phone lines right out of the house and blew the main breakers on the house.

So the question is? Bad Vp44, or Bad ECM, or APPS or what would cause the idle and high idle condition?

Thanks

JG

Well What happened to the Friendlyness and helpful Atitude of the Diesel Community? Has things change that much over the years? Use to be if a member had issues you had tons of post making suggestions on how to fix your problem!!!!

Anyways Enough of my *****in, after some indepth trouble shooting all sysmtoms are pointing to the possibility the the ECM took a dump I'll know more after I ohm out the harness to confirm it. How you ask? With the Edge comp in the open on the streering column I'm guessing that when the lightning struck it created an EMP Pulse significant enough to feed back through the data port the edge Comp plugs into under the hood. If the pulse was big enough it may have fried the data com circuits in the ECM. Thus you get P1689 No com to and from Injector pump.

So the question now is where to get a replacement ECM? Is there anybody out there referbing ecm's and maybe offering a hotter tune to the ECM?

let me know

Ok let's revisit this thing logically;

The truck starts fine and Idles when you hit the accelerator pedal it immediately jumps to 1200-1300 RPM. If I plug in the Edge comp box It throw's a P0236 map sensor code. If I plug in the factory harness The P0236 clears.

All Things being equal Yes I do have a hard P1689 code and have performed the resistance tests and all is clean no ground faults or opens.

If the ECM is still throwing codes like it should to the pcm and Triggering the Fuel Pump Relay to let the truck run and idle. and the Apps is telling the ecm to ramp up RPM's and the ECM is telling the VP44 to ramp RPM's But the VP44 just triggers a High Idle.

Common sence points to the VP44 as bieng dead and not the ECM like the troubleshooting steps says.

Boggled and confused??? So am I Honest opinion from yall, we have a 50/50 chance of getting this right. If you were in this situation what would you change first the VP44 or the ECM and why????

Honest question!!!

Joe- PM CSnyder. He probably has an ECM you can use to see if yours is crapped out.
