I am having an issue with my shift handle not seemingly allowing the transmission to shift into third gear or allowing the convertor to lockup. When this happens the trans will hold second gear and just keep pulling rpms until i pull back the shift lever and let it snap forward. Then it will some times drop into third and then allow the convertor to lock. I almost think it is in the column because the O/D on/off button just seems to control the lock up as normal.

Maybe adjust the bracket that holds the linkage @ the bellhousing??? Thats if im reading it right and its hard to feel the exact detents for each gear.

You might have to pull off the level the cable pulls on and adjust it a few teeth.
