ok sooooooooo long story short.
helped a buddy pull his 12v that was a leaky mess and made a strange whoomping noise till 2000rpm.
swapped all his p-pump stuff onto an 02 24v that had approx 120,000km was a runner, but was stripped of turbo and VP.
got it all swapped in and running minus the coolant temp sensor and grid heaters... got timing set around 19* or so.
fired it up, and @ the tail pipe it sounds nice and smooth.... does not miss, sputter or so much as skip a beat from idle to 2000rpm.
get closer to the motor and you can hear a tapping sound, not quite a knock.. seems to be coming from the top end. The motor sat for awhile, but when we popped the oil pan and tappet cover, internally it looked brand new, spun over by hand smoothly. Going to adjust valves on the weekend. I've heard strange rumors about 02 heads having pressed in valve seats and iam wonder what this sounds like... or perhaps any of you have any idea what this odd noise could be.
