I've Tried about everything I know To try, to break free the Pinion nut that holds the yoke on the D80. Its an 1 13/16" socket. I've tried:
Zep penetrating oil/PB blaster
3/4 Impact being fed with plenty of air
1/2 Nitro cat 1300 ft/lbs gun with plenty of air
Heat then impact
and a 7' Breaker bar.
This thing refuses to come out.
Anyone else have any suggestions? Truck is a 98 24v Dually with 330k on it.
I also dont think a 1 13/16" Impact socket will fit in the stock 1410 yoke.

Thanx
Chris

Put some serious heat to it, then spray with oil of your choice, I have heard that a 50/50 mix of Acetone and ATF will work better than pretty much anything store bought. When you get frustrated enough to call it for the night, give it a bit of heat and soak it with ATF, that has worked for me before.

Depending on what all you are trying to reuse, your best option might be to just cut the nut and yoke with a torch, as a friend of mine says, "It be's thataway sometime".

I ground down my impact and don't worry too much as the yoke keeps the socket from spreading. I cranked my compressor up to like 125 and my 1/2" drive broke it loose finally. I did use a map gas torch and penetrating oil also.

With mine i ran it out then in several times to break it loose.I had to grind my socket down too.

Stick a pipe wrench on the yoke and let it swing around and bind against the ground. If it doesn't reach, slip a length of pipe over it so it does.

Then take a 3/4 drive pull handle and another length of pipe over it and take the nut off.

Done and done.

A human being with a 3' breaker bar can impart FAR more torque than a 3/4 drive impact. You start getting to 4 or more feet and it gets stupid how much force you can apply. Impact can't even dream of anything like it.

Figure you can only pull with 600lbs of force, which should be easy for most anyone. With a 4 foot breaker you're applying 2400ft/lbs.

I only had to use 7ft worth of breaker bar and PB blaster... almost 300k on it...

With a long enough cheater bar you can stand and jump on it, thats what I did.

I like The pipe wrench idea. I'm also going to have my wife stand on the brakes while I try and get it off. I'm first going to try a 1" impact I picked up today witha 3/4" adaptor on it. I have plenty of shop air with the 2-stage compressor(190psi). Thanks for the suggestions. I'm just getting frustrated with the stupid thing. If the 1" doesnt take it off I'm going with the pipe wrench and a 3/4" breaker bar with an 8' bar onthe end of it. Something is sure to break!

Thanks
Chris

Dang that thing is on there! When I took mine off I used my Mac aw5500m 1/2 inch impact.

It takes 3 muscles and 8 pounds of pressure to run an impact....

Impact is the only way on those when they stick. Torch it good, go ahead an buy a seal for it.

you would be surpised what some heat will do for breaking things loose. i must have gotten lucky on mine. came right off with my wussy 1/2 impact and no penitrating oil or heat

I got it!!
The 1" impact with a pipe wrench would "not" break it free. I never used one that size before but holy crap are they heavy and loud and shake ya all to hell. After soaking it one more time me and a friend used a 2' Pipe wrench on the yoke and a 3/4" breaker bar with a 6' pipe and it finally Popped.
By the way its an1 7/8" socket not 1 13/16":hehe:
Thanx for all the advise!:rockwoot:

also, a 1" impact doesn't = a 1" impact...

we had a 1" impact in our job box that was a weak nut... we were on a job and were in a bind because our 1" wouldn't break a particular fastener loose (and we had 12 of them to hit!!!)

thankfully an old boy had a 1" Snap-On on his truck, and let us borrow it

I must not have eaten enough vegetables when I was growing up because there is no way I can pull with 600lbs of force. I can't even squat close to 600lbs. :what:
If you can row 600lbs then I see why you would look down upon power tools

I'm pretty sure he's talking about the force the average guy can put on a common breaker bar
