As stated this is a 99 5sp truck that has an 01 motor in it. I put an 01 ecm and wiring harness in it and now it will start and idle all day long but it won't get over 2000rpms. I scanned it and it has about 18 pcm codes in it. Now I know for a fact I have every single connector connected. About to p pump if I can't figure this out....anybody have some ideas ? (all ground connections are good according to my test light)

You switched to the 01 harness and controls. Was the 01 engine also from a manual trans truck, or auto?

If auto, it could be an issue there.

exactly. sounds like and auto flashed ecm and the torque management is kicking in.

FWIW, if you don't flash the new ECM with the same VIN number as your ABS module, you'll also get a code. Some say I'm full of it, but that made my CEL come on and stay on. $.02

I think you got a few oranges in your apple cart.

thanks for the replies guys. The engine came out of an 01 manual yes ... But the ecm and harness i know is from an 01 but i don't know if it was an auto or manual. I bought it from another guy up north of me. So pretty much the 01 ecm isn't cooperating with my 99 ABS module? I can give you the codes in a few hours when i get back to it. Again thanks for the help i am going to sell this rig when i get the issue resolved.

I think it isn't cooperating with the PCM and possibly the ABS. You should only get one or two codes from ABS saying "mismatched VIN." The PCM is another story. It might be as simple as a reflash if you can find someone to do it.

ok well I'll try to get my ecm reflashed then. Is that something I need to have done at a dealer or can I go to Cummins? Also can it be done on the bench or does it need to be installed on the truck?

Codes -
- p0606 pcm processor fault
- p0237 map sensor A circuit low input
- p0123 tps sensor A circuit high input
- p0118 engine coolant temp circuit high input
- p0113 iat sensor 1 circuit high input
- p1689 - n/a
- p0222 tps b circuit low input

No comm with PCM, no MAP sensor reading, no APPS reading, no coolant temp reading, no intake air temp reading, ....doooode, you got some major issues here.

Take one instance for example. 0113, IAT circuit high. I would guess that you hooked up an AIT sensor on the new motor? Is it the same part number meaning from the same year truck as the ECM? Apparently the ECM isn't seeing the correct resistance from the sensor. It appears that way from all these sensor codes. Either your ECM is chit, or none of your sensors are working correctly. It could be as simple as a grounded out supply voltage pulling them all down, but unlikely. I would try to get a reflash first. I hope that is the issue. Your new ECM isn't looking to promising to me right now.

The dealer may give you the story they gave me, "we can only program new ECM's that don't have a VIN in them yet." I ended up sending mine off to Ohio to get redone. Ask around, good luck. Keep us posted.

01 manual ecm is different than an 99 manual ecm. same for the pcm. deff think you have the wrong pcm and ecm combo. you will most likely need to get your 99 pcm flashed for an 01 manual setup and or your new ecm flashed for an 99 manual setup. they are not communicating well

Might have better luck getting the PCM flashed than the ECM. Not too many around here know how to do ECM's....good luck where you are.

This is a pain .... To much $ spent already and not to mention countless hours tracing wires and checking resistance......either p pump time or sell as is ... Just put a new s o pump on it. Only drove it about 5 miles since.. HEADACHE.

I know it's been a while but I just took the truck to the dealership to have my pcm reflashed for an 01 manual .... Again tons of codes. Reflashed the ECM too just for the hell of it and again same results. They suggested trying a new ECM for a 99 ($1800). Only problem with trying that is this 01 motor does not have a tone ring on the crankshaft for the crank signal. It uses a cam sensor instead .... Im no genius but I don't think getting a new ecm will solve my problem. I tried an alternate route and had a tone ring made that had the same number of teeth as the ring on a 99crank and mounted it onto the balancer up front. I then extended the crank sensor pigtail from my 99 harness and moved the sensor up front (kind of similar to the 12 valve crank sensor location). It ran excellent for a day then shut off going down the road. All in all ppumping is sounding better and better each day ...

I put a 98 engine into an 01 truck- both manuals. I researched before doing it and found out about the crank and cam sensor difference. I went ahead and pulled the cam and timing case, swapped the '01 stuff over. It worked flawless when installed.

I still have the old 99 ecm and 99 crank. That's all it would take to make it right.

I'm really not sure, now that you've changed so much. Sounds like a cluster F#$% now. Do all those codes come back if you clear them?
