this is probably a dumb question but does anybody know if there is a way to see if anything had been upgraded on it by a previous owner? i ask because at 110,000 miles i still have no slippage out of converter and the higher i turn up the comp box, the firmer the shifts get. nothing break neck but not really a "slide" into gear. i can be on 5X5 and mash the throttle at 55 and get 0 slip, it just poops a lot of smoke then GOES. any help would be appriciated as i really dont want to have to drop it to see:umno:

you can take the dust cover off and see what color the converter is and maybe figure out from there and also alot of companies mark there valvebodies so you could drop the pan and look at the valvebody.

so i just got done putting the dust cover back on and found this....engine side is plain metal, dome side is almost a brass color. what does this say to anybody? stock or not?

Be easy punching it at 55 mph on 5X5 or ts going to start slipping. Sounds stock to me on the converter. Some are a gray color if there aftermarket. You might be able to scrape some of the paint off and see if its billet, that if it had paint.

These have been getting little mods since 94. They have been nuking transmissions since then too. Being the 47rh/re is based off the 727 I think trany builders have applied quiet a bit of old school tricks to these. EX: The famous check ball that always gets left out. It is almost hard to find 47RE that haven't been tweaked with to some degree.

if you put a lock up switch on and can acheive lock up in first gear the VB is modded.

thanks for the advise everybody. as for the flooring it..it was kind of an exageration. i am in a cam boot thanks to a motorcycle accident last year that tore all the ligaments and am only able to get enough pedal to hold around 2500 rpm during acceleration (i should be back into a shoe sometime soon though). i leave it on 5X5 for the fact that i do get the best mileage out of the truck and with the massive amount of low end i dont have to give any pedal to keep with traffic off of stop lights, and i know that the tranny can hold the "average" power output of that level. "it's all in how you beat on it" i dont drive hard really at all, i had just noticed a few things with the shifting in the last few weeks. i am looking to upgrade the tranny soon and i didnt really want to buy for it stuff that is already in there...hence the question in the first place.

x2.

If the tranny has been rebuilt at some point in its life I can guarantee you it has some modifications to it. As for what was done to it, it is hard to say. It will vary with the builder and what they feel is necessary to make it live in the application it is in. I'd venture to guess that if it was done by a local tranny guy that it is probably pretty close to stock unless whatever shop it was done by specialized in performance trannys. That's been my experience anyway.
