So I was filling up the other day, and somehow managed to over-do it a bit.... I hear all this splashing noise, and realize that it is coming from the top of the tank, not out of the neck....

I had no Idea there was an overflow up there.... I have topped that tank off a hundred times....

So there is an overflow up there, right?

Do you have an aftermarket liftpump where you might have abandoned the factory withdrawl location?

Negatory.... All should be unmolested up there...I run a MITUSA pump... it is tied in to the stock supply line.

There is a vent on the top of the tank. There were actually quite a few trucks that were delivered with the vent capped off. There was a TSB some years ago about removing the cap, because it was causing fuel starvation.

Of course it could be something else, so it wouldn't hurt to check it out. The vent is actually pretty small. I'm not sure you could get enough fuel out of it to notice it dripping...

Uhh..... I actually don't ever remember seeing a valve up there other than the roll over valve..

If you heard "splashing" I would be a little concerned. I could see a little seepage, but if that much is coming out... It might be time to drop the tank down a little and take a look.

I would just see if it does it again first

My old 95 would do that when the gasket around the sending unit swelled?? I really don't know what happened to the gasket, but it just started leaking around there. I took the ring out, gooped some silicone in there, and she's been good for another 175K miles now.

Yes, I am a hillbilly;) But it worked.

It was pouring out... I made a helluva mess...

I had it happen once when topping off... I stop at the first automatic shutoff now and have never had a problem since.

You could take the bed off. That way, the next time you fill up you won't need to go to all the trouble of crawling under there to look. LOL

I was thinking about dropping the tank right there at the pump... it will be light when I get there...

I pull the bed...way easier if you have lifting equipment. Then I don't have to crawl my fat @ss under there :hehe:

Chris

Can I drop the tank and pull the bed? Sounds more funner that way LOL

I was being facetious about dropping the tank at the filling station... LOL

I've dropped the tank so many times screwing with the FASS and plumbing, it only takes about 1 hour to drop it, screw with it, and get it back in. You just need a long pry bar for the front bracket that some asshat designed.

Remember, there is not stupid questions, just stupid people.

:hehe:
