Super touchy rear brakes

I've had the lines off a couple times on the rear brakes. Each time the system was bled out twice. Still the REAR only is super touchy. I mean it makes me look like an idiot when I hit the brakes on a gravel driveway or on wet pavement.

The gravel driveway at the shop now looks like a set of motocross whoops from braking bumps. Each time I hit the brakes they lock up....what can I adjust? Its a 98 12V

I have a buddy with the same problem. I hope someone can help. His ABS and brake lights are lit on the dash also.

My speed sensor on the rear axle is 6 months old. So I don't know if that would play a factor in this issue.

i had a 94 that had one wheel that did the same thing ruined 1 set of pad before i realized what was wrong with it. it was missing the return spring on the parking brake cable. (the long spring that slides over the cable itself) got it on there and all was fine but i had no abs light on.

my truck does the same exact thing, and not only is it embarassing, it's down right dangerous. I've almost slammed into the back of a couple of other vehicles when my brakes lock up like that. I'll check the return spring on the parking cable, sounds like a good start. My parking break also just stopped working, so maybe i can kill two birds with one stone

I was doing some towing at my old job and went to the bigger bore pistons. Last friday night two does walsed out in front of me and I got crossed up. I ralley sported my way out of the skid but I thought sure I was gonna have to pull deer parts out of my rear wheel well.

Forgive me if you all are talking disc brakes.

Have you pulled the drums off? A cleaning, adjusting, and de-glazing goes a long way.

I'm chasing that same problem right now. It only does it in the morning for the first 2-3 times I hit the brake, then they are fine after that.

I had the same problems with my 98 original axles, in the morning the firts braking draw nice rubber black lines.

With 00 axles I do not have this problem anymore.

I pulled my drums off & I didn't see anything that would cause this issue. The brakes were like new & spun freely, no leaks, no binding etc. I'll find it one day.

My truck does the same thing. It's an 01. The work truck we had all stock also an 01 did it. My brake light is on but everything spins free.

This is common when the rear ride height sensor is removed or is tied at the incorrect angle after one lifts the truck.it is also very common with trucks where the owner does not use the absolute cheapest, softest rear brake shoes and instead they use a metallic or carbon metallic shoe. This will create a very grabby rear brake and many times it will only get worse.I had this discussion way back in early 99 with then TDR member and brake guru Sam Peterson up in the NW.I have done this ever since and have had no issues with my rear brakes at all.........Andy

are the shoes the right way short shoe in front.. if long shoe is in front it will cause harsh braking and lock rear brakes up
