Suspension stop question

I am going to a truck pull this weekend and decided to make some suspension stops for the rear. I have a 2nd gen. dodge. All I did was unbolt the factory rubber block and bolt in a homemade 2"x4" tubular steel piece. It is going to hit on that ear sticking out on the factory suspension block. Is this the correct way to do it? After spending an hour making them I'm wondering if that ear is just going to snap off or maybe even catastrophically cock the entire block.

Haha, I made my last night and got thinking the same thing. Most guys do it that way, So i would think they hold pretty good.

what if you got rid of the factory blocks and went all spring. what are the chances of letting it hit the axle tube (make a longer 2x4) and not hurting the tube?

The nub on the blocks are plenty strong. There are trucks around here that have been pulling like that for years. You can cut them off or stack springs to take the blocks place (although the blocks set the pinion angle too, so extra springs may not be a good idea) and make longer blocks to the axle tube. Thats how my adjustables are on my 04. Although I have seen a pic or 2 of axle tubes getting dented in from a good bounce.

my blocks mount in the same place and i also have a piece that fits underneath the little ear for extra support!

I would also think the ear on the block will hold just fine! A little hint when building rear stops...make the pass. side 1 1/2" longer than the drivers side... that will preload the drivers side front tire to help fight the TQ pulling up on that tire.

When i did mine i just mesuared the driver said and made both the same. Well when there is 1 k hangin off the driver front the passenger rear is about 1.75 inches higher. So i had to cut some spacers for that side to make it longer. I also just use the ear on the block no issues, and i drive it back and forth from my house to the garage on the street with the blocks down and weight on. If you know how pa roads are, its bounced the heck out of the ears and no breakage.

Yeah....when ya make the pass. side rear block 1 1/2 longer then you can move some of that 1k to the middle of the truck to put more weight on the pass. front.

Here's what my 3rd gen stops look like...

Thats a pretty neat set up. I just took 2in sq and 1.5in sq and drilled some holes to adjust height with a bolt and slide the one in the othere to make solid or 1" or 2'' travel depending on rules.
