Anyone ever messed around with limit straps or bump stops on the front end? After watching a few trucks pull I am almost certain that there are a few people out there running some sort of suspension stop in the front. Ive thought several times about trying it myself.

I mentioned it to Joe Underwood last pull and he said not a good idea. '97 ram said they tried it and broke all 4 axle shafts. Think they broke again the pull after that. Talked me out of it.

i was kicking the idea around a while back, mickey davis told me it didnt work for them on the strip, but if you do, do it ,make sure you factor in the engine torque when doing the straps or youll be going sideays not straight, when it tries pull the tire off the ground!

Why would it cause you to break axle shafts? I could see maybe if it made you hop or bounce and then you broke, but other than that I dont see why it would?

A strap/chain may break and pull you to one side putting more load on the opposite side.$.02

I watched Joes' pass at Edmonton with the front strapped. Not a good Idea is right. He came off the brakes and the front tire instantly left the ground breaking the front end. Also seen Jeremy Reece do this at Murfreesboro 2 years ago. Started bouncing real bad about 100ft out and broke everything up front. The front suspension has to have some give to it.

I dont like the idea of strapping the front suspension, unless it is a ford and you have to do it to keep the front end from killing itself.

I think i'd run a coil-over on the front to help keep the tire to the track.

it dont hop, better leave it alone!:hehe:

all but one that i know thats tried it on the GM IFS says DON'T do it. It's a recipe for bouncing which isn't real common on the IFS trucks. There is one that I know does this with his IFS DMax though and does good where he pulls at so who knows.

edit: think I've seen three do it with success... the other two are Dale calendar and his friend with the white LMM dually. Both have limited theirs in some way cause they've both packed a front wheel down the track before. Stock won't do that!

DO NOT DO with an IFS. Takes a normally peaceful truck and turns it into a rabid bouncer.

I *think* if you made it completely rigid, you could have a shot at making it work. But with "some" travel and then a stop, bad bad news.

All you're gonna gain is a tad of hitch height....and from what I've seen, going from 26" to 25" (for example) just ain't a night and day difference.

Someone used to make clamps to compress 2 or 3 coils of a coil spring tight together. Kind of a cheapo lowering kit for lowrider cars. Seems like you used 2 per coil stagered opposite of each other. You could try this method to let the front sag down some, that is if you have coil springs in the front of your Ram.

you probably need better shocks and possibly more of them on the front.
