1996, lightly tweaked pump, Automatic (Stock, maybe? I don't know), 4.10 gears and 33 inch tires.

Truck locks and unlocks the converter at around 45 mph. This is very annoying as 75% of the roads around my house are 45 mph and I know this is going to eventually hurt my converter if this keeps up. Converter is strong and will stay locked and have no other issues except around 45 mph. What should I do? I plan to go with 35 inch tires soon and I hope this will move the issue up in MPH, which would be fine with me as I never run 50 mph on the roads due to heavy law enforcement...

Could be the tps if it seems to do it around a certain amount of throttle. Mine does it worse when its real humid or raining at certain speeds as well.

We have been using tps deletes (pots) to somewhat curb the issue. What's the tps voltage? Does it change if you wiggle the bellcrank?

i had the same problem, got worse when it was cold out. mostly under light throttle. put in a tc lock-up switch solved the problem, cost like 5$

I'm gonna go out on a limb here....I'm sure he is wanting the PCM to function like its supposed to and not just put a band aid over an existing problem.

In many cases the only solution is replace the bell crank , bushings and possibly the bracket itself. Many folks would rather spend 40 eliminating the problem compared to 300 for a new throttle assembly. Not trying to call you out on it just saying.

What's sad is that I don't even know if I got a RE or RH tranny, never bothered to look, this truck has been drove more in the last month than the last 3 1/2 years I've owned it...

Haven't touched it yet...

Temperature dosen't change the issue, just does it right at 45 mph. It is doing the same thing the gas automatic trucks with 3.55's and 35 inch tires do when running at 55 mph. The only way to stop it is to shut the overdrive off and then the engine is screaming.

I would like to fix it correctly

I will mess with it more when I get home in 2 weeks, I more worried about the 2-3 inches of play in the steering wheel at the steering box input and the lack of brakes as of Friday afternoon...

Though I will say it has a damn good converter in it, whatever the hell it is. Even when driving normal you got to pay attention cause when that converter locks at 45 mph you will be at 55 within a matter of seconds, about rearended a couple cars, even worse if you got the cruise set...

swapped an alternator recently?
I think some are noisier than others and they make lots of noise thats picked up by the PCM. some folks suggest covering the power line from the alternator with foil and grounding it on both ends.
I have this same problem and the shop wants to sell me a TPS so I guess Im fixing this one myself.

No BUT the alternator was missing almost all the bolts out of it. Yes, the truck shook the bolts out of it. Had it happen on the A/C compressor on my 90 also. I will try this trick...
