Well before i pull the tcase i figured i would get some opinions. When the truck is in 4hi and 4low it will have a grinding sound part of the time when you put power to it. It also does it really bad when backing up. When is in 2wd no problems what so ever. Im guessing i need a new tcase. Truck is a 2002 6speed with a 241 DHD. I have a feeling a few things could have caused the failure. When i bought the truck i went to swap all the fluids and t-case had gear oil in it and i put over 40 hooks on 4hi 2nd this summer. Im hoping to pull off 4low 5th next year but if not it will be 4hi 2nd again. Truck has 4.10s.

Thanks Kyle.

I would guess that you either have a bad bearing or worn shift fork The range fork is alumium and the plastic pads get "melted" off from low/no lube. Other thing it could be is the front thrust plate in the planitary could be cuped due to shock load.Or as simple as a snap ring jumped out/broken. Tear into it there isn;t much in there.

i bought a chain and bearing kit from tbtrans.com a few years back and i think it was like 150 bucks or something. i thought that was a hell of a deal. if you call up there the guy that i talked to knew these things in and out and he could get you the oil pump in it if its bad or whatever other parts are needed im sure.

By the looks of it the t-case was blowing oil out the breather tube and maybe around the tailshaft housing by the rear drive shaft. Any ideas what would cause this because the t-case was empty and had no oil in it. I will prolly give tbtrans.com a call back and see what all parts he suggest i get. Im not sure what all tools i will need.

just basic tools you can have it apart man. if you want i got a guy i work with im sure would build it at home for ya if you dont want to try it. let me know.

it took about 5min to get apart. But i still have got the shaft out of the one piece tail housing. Theres a snap ring that holds the bearing in place in the tail housings and the only way to access it is from a small hole after you pull the rubber grommet. I dont have any snap ring pliers so i guess i need to get some because you have to spread the snap ring and pull the shaft out of the housing in one motion i believe.
