Tach goin haywire

today i was driving and my rpms were falling them coming back up to normal the falling down again it did it for awhile and then it didn't do it for the rest of the drive is this a sensor or what

did you happend to see if the volt gauge was jumping around also?
 
CPS is going bad. The wires are known to rub and short as well. Check them out and check the gap I think it should be .050" IIRC.
 
my truck did that turned out the wires going down to the tach pickup chaffed on the top of the head were it turns down to the crank.
 
Mine did that and the CPS was out of adjustment. It did not affect my voltage.
 
not sure about the volt meter but ill check the adjustment that might be it the kdp just busted my front cover and i might not have set it at the right height
 
yeah it soundes like the CPS is out of adjustment i was just woundering what else was acting up before i pointed at just that, the air gap should be between .049 to .053 i believe is what it is.
 
just use a business card. works everytime.

did your speedometer ever jump around again??
