Tach Install Help

I have a autometer tach. I can not get the tach to read smoothly. I have tried to move the sensor closer add extra support. running out of ideas. was wondering if anyone else had this problem? and how did you fix it. Pick up is bolted to timing cover and using a 1/4 thick disc mounting to the balancer.

I installed that Autometer Tach last week and it works great. I machined 2 more notches in my balancer however.

Don't call Autometer, their not too swift when you tell them it's a diesel application.

You can use any tach you choose with a mag pickup and a four pole HEI module.

I noticed some deflection on the pick up and can't seem how to make it more solid if that will even help. I have 4 evenly spaced marks on the pick up ring sat at 3/16 deep, 1/2 inch wide and still tach will not read smoothly. Jerod how did you make your tach work smooth? any other ideas?

I know of one that trigers off the four bolts on the balancer.

Here is a picture to help show what I did:

I took the stock pickup holder and milled it flat where the notch is to gain some room for the angle that holds the switch.

well from the looks of the electric water pump I would say he doesn't run one.
