Ok, I am wanting to ask all of you experienced sled pullers how I should be pulling my truck and what setting would be best!

Run down of truck and mods,

II towing twins, 55psi set
II stage 2 CP3
Raptor 150 fuel pump 20psi
Scheid 100 hp injectors (10 hole?)
Scheid Cam
Scheid Ported head- springs etc
Smarty TNT-R
Edge Juice w/att (on truck but probably won't use)
Goerend full billet trans w/ lock up switch
Front locker
Traction bar and blocks

I think that is most of the things as far as the truck goes, so now a couple of questions.

What is the best setting for the Smarty? And when using the TNT-R version does it matter what level you are on if I have changed the settings. Ie: timing, torque, etc?

I just put the torque converter lock up switch on a few weeks ago and haven't pulled with it. So how do I go about using it or shouldn't I? Was thinking about taking off in 1st, shifting to 2nd and the hit the lock-up button and go for 3rd.

Any thoughts on any of this would be great, Thank You all very much in advance.

Oh also would a MP8 be of any benefit on top of the Smarty, even though the Smarty has pressure?

Dustin

One thing most organazations won't let you pull with twins or your pulling for exhibition? But as for settings I run Smarty 9 torge 4 timeing 3 rail pressure 2. Do not use the edge juice with the smarty if anything just use it as gauges i use mine to monitor my pulls since it will clock your wheel speed and RPM and helps me decide at the next pull what gear to pull. As for the Auto i have no idea I pull a 6speed. Might try looking for a pressure box too to add a little more hp??

have you ever dynoed your truck Dustin ? Just curious as to what you have compared to me. If you have much less than me, you definitely need to do something cause we should be very close.

You definitely want a MP-8 or other psi box with the Smarty. They compliment either other well.

I don't know that I have the cajones to use the lock up switch with that much of a load on the truck. I also don't think starting in first is necessary or wise. You could probably get away with starting and staying in second. I know guys do use a lock up but, most that pull have 6 speeds. I'd be interested to that answer too.

It dyno'd 585hp can't remember torque with out looking, and that was on Scheid's dyno. That was smarty and edge juice w/att.

On its way!

I know of a few chevys that lock up their converters and watching a lot of trucks at Scheid's I'd say a bunch do it?

Thanks again,

Dustin

you missing some info: tire size, gear ratio, I dont know what year your truck is, so not sure what trans you have.

If you dont lock the converter its like riding the clutch in a standard, your not getting all the power to the ground.

10 hole 100hp injectors???

Tire size is 285 75- 17 ( alot wider than stock and a little taller) 3.73 gears,
2005 year, 4 door DRW, front locker.

Thanks again for the replys!!!!

Dustin

Pressure box for sure and some more boost would be better I pull makin around 70psi and I run a standard to I pull 5th low wheel speed 35mph mine with the 4k rpm tune cuts off my lift pump and I am back to 3500rpms what kinda front locker do u have. (Power wagon)? That's what I am lookin at and u should be makin more power than that at least close to mid 6s or low 7s. What size chargers is ur II.

I would start in second then shift to third and lock up the converter, but make sure you are on top of the chargers when you lock it up. Get a pressure box for sure, i like the ts-mp8. I hope your injectors arn't 10 hole??!! Make sure you block your suspension if allowed and hang weights to make 8k or whatever weight class you are pulling. Look into regearing your axles if you are going to make a habbit of pulling your truck also.

the old stage 2 cp3s from II pretty much suck. The new 85% pumps rock for a single pump. I'd take care of that issue first. Without a good supply of high pressure fuel, there's no telling where you'd be able to run the smarty. Start at SW9, Timing 2, tq3 or 4, and work your way down until you can hold 25k + wot.

Ditch the edge, get a pressure box of some sort. EZ, Dr. Performance, MP-8, extreme puck, etc.

It does matter what level the smarty is on even when other settings are adjusted....
even numbers achieve similar power increases as the odd number sw's by using more duration and less timing. Odd numbers use more timing and less duration. Try both and see what works on your truck.

Be sure your charger is lit before you lockup whatever gear you are in. and unlock when you stop quick. Depending on the track, dirt, length and the sled im pulling I will usually take off in 1st lite up, lock up, shift to 2nd and on to 3rd if track length permitts. if it`s a short track and very tight i will just let er scream in 2nd. but i`m also pulling 8500lb.

what pulling association are you goin to pull at up north snoxracer i pull with mpa but thats central iowa your prolly to far up there for them but i know a few people that live up your way

I think with that tire size and gear ratio that your running you should be able to get 3rd no problem if its a 300' track. If the truck seems its really hooking up then you may just want to leave it in second. 3rd gear lock up 4 lo and your set up should net you about 26-28mph wheel speed.

I run 35s this same way and get 33-35mph, but i dont have very agressive tires. new tires next week though, so everything may change.
