TC Lockup switch question?

I just finished putting a TC lockup switch on my 98.5 and I tried it out on a soft 4x4 launch. The 1st to 2nd switch was so violent and it seemed like the truck twitched sideways when tc locked up. My question is does the switch need to be activated after it shifts to 2nd or do I just turn it on when I launch? I have a full billet DTT street/strip trans. I am wondering in case I am doing it wrong and rip some of the drivetrain off.
 
Unless your V/B is set up for locked 1st gear, it should shift 1-2-lock-3-4. I leave the line with the switch engaged, and when it hits 2nd it locks the converter.
 
It worked like a charm when I used it at the track! Improved my 330' by almost 2 tenths! Best free mod yet!
