I am wanting to buy my first diesel. I mainly want a 2nd gen cummins and was just wondering about prices, 12v vs 24v, and beginner mods.

the first beginner mods are gauges and upgrading the fuel system if its a 24v.. 12v just gauges for now. correct me if im wrong, im not 100% sure with 12v info

yea i actually just found an 01 locally with an upgraded fuel system and gauges

Sweet would u rather tune your truck wit& electronics or with springs and tools? That's about the difference oh and if you buy a 12v fix the kdp first.

Do it!
12 valves are alot easier to get cheaper power out of, but be sure and adress the main problems first (killer dowel pin) and get a set of gauges
24 valves are nice and alot of power can be gained from simple modifications (they do cost a little more). They definately need an aftermarket fuel system (Fass, Air Dog).
Hopefully that helped. Good luck.

KDP isn't 12v only.

A used diesel isn't any different from any other used vehicle. All vehicles have some sort of shortcoming.

It looks like you might want to do a little searching and learning of some basics so you can make an informed decision instead of just listening to a bunch of strangers on the net...

12 valve is the cheapest to build. Pump can flow a lot of fuel without costly mods, and is super reliable. However with the 12ver you're stuck with whatever setting until you pull out the tools and retune it unlike 24v and CR which are more plug and play and switch on the fly.

24v are nice but your limited on the power your going to make with a vp unless you go with a monster or ppump. The 12v already comes ppump'd but at the same time there not as nice as 24v unless you find one thats been babied all its life (its been very hard for me to find one lookin for a DD to tow my 24v with)... I do prefer the 24v though because were I live it gets cold and the 24v do better in cold weather because my old 12v was a b***h until it got warm but I didnt mind fighting it because I loved tuning it...

Ok i think i will start looking for a 24v cummins. And i am gunna try for under 7000$.
