Hey guys I need some suggestions to repair my timing case. I swapped out my timing case for one off my parts truck and in the process the vacuum pump got stuck on the bracket against the block. It was dark out and I was trying to get stuff together before I went to sleep. In hindsight that was probably a bad idea, but anyway I stripped the threads on the bottom bolt on the vacuum pump. I siliconed the hell out of it (I know, I know, I don't like putting band aids on broken arms either) for the time being and I'm letting it sit overnight to dry. However, I want to fix this the right way and need some opinions on what to do. I've got the whole motor buttoned up and it runs fine, just has a very minimal leak where the vacuum pump bolts up. I really don't feel like pulling the cam again and replacing the timing case AGAIN, but if I have to, I will. I was thinking of trying to loctite a stud in place of the bolt and throwing a nut on it, but I don't know if I can get a tap in there or not, it's tight. That or put a heli-coil in, but if I'm gonna do that, I might as well get a new case, because I don't think there's anyway I can do that while it's still bolted up. Let me know what you guys think... I want my engine leak free and it's not going back on the road until it is. It is my only form of transportation so I need to get it up and running as soon as possible. Thanks in advance guys.

I think you answered your own question. Heli coils will keep it from happening again since they are steel. I stripped all the AFC bolts out tightening those little POS bolts up in that aluminum and they didn't stand a chance, heli coiled all of them and I can tighten the hell out of them. That's what I would do.. Fix the problem, problem being you might strip it out again so heli coiling it is a good solution.

Everyones been in your situation before or else nobody would strip a bolt out in their life. If they can pull that off then I'm a bigger screwup than I thought.

Yeah I guess I did answer my own question. I will most likely try to put a heli-coil in. It's just gonna be difficult to get in there because it's in such an awkward spot. Yeah I feel like an idiot because I caused myself a big problem by rushing, but what's done is done. Time to fix it.

Started it this morning and turns out the silicone job I did last night held and it doesn't leak at all. Gonna leave it be for now, when it gets back from the body shop I'll try and put a heli-coil in.

I would reccommend and TimeSert instead of a helicoil. you can get them in different sizes and it threads in similar to a helicoil but has a bottom to it and you can loctite/jbweld or whatever into the threads. theyre available at most fastener supply stores, i bought an assorted set a few years ago and i use them all the time and never had a problem. my $.02

I would wait until the silicone fails. It may or may not fail. I would have stopped when the bolt stripped and gone to bed. Usually when you start having problems, if you walk away for a while, the problems quit happening when you get back.

Haha yeah I guess it got the better of me, and I saw that TimeSert stuff on youtube awhile back. I'll have to look into it some more thanks blackstallion.
