i advanced my timing today about 5* the truck has a more noticable tick to the valves and lags when driving down the road is this normal or what did i do? the truck is a 1996 180 12 valve i have 4gsk, 0 plate, tuned afc, bhaf, custom intake, 5x.018 injectors, a 66mm s300 turbo, and lazercut dv, truck rand great and built boost quick at stock 13* of timing but rand a little hotter than i would like it to i thought it might run better and help my egts by advancing the timing but its now laggy and the valves tick a lot more any advice did i advance it to much or did i possibly retard it? any help appreciated

How does it run WOT? did your EGTs go down? Does it rev smoothly w/ no load?

egts did go down some wot runs fine but takes a lot longer to get up to speed and build boost. with no load it revs great! before (stock timing) when i reved it with no load it cut out some now when i rev it with no load it revs just as smooth as can be

Slower spooling is one of the trade-offs of advancing the timing. Doesn't sound like you retarded it. How did you time it? Use the plunger/lift method?
