alright-Im new here, been lurking reading up, but I have a question. Im about to set the timing on my 97 12valve (auto engine), but the pumps cpl plate is missing. Ive read on a stock headgasket 16 degrees is a happy medium. Ive read the dodge procedure for setting timing, but having never done it im a bit fuzzy. I pulled the timing cover to do the KDP, but reassembled it prior to reading up on timing. I guess I want to do it with the cover on since its got new seals and gaskets. Someone give me some advice.

a little background. The truck is a 2003 ford superduty that I cut the frame on to make it a standard cab shortbox. I put a 47rh behind it with a ats converter and transgo shift kit (hd-2). As for engine mods, Im installing:

PDR hx40
laser cut DV's
3k gsk
afc spring kit
doing the pump mods
and a conservative set of injectors

Id like to achieve around 400hp, should be doable according to my research. The Intercooler is a superduty, as are all the coolers. Thanks guys.

Thank you, but I have read that. What Im looking for are some tips to make it easier, along with the settings to use as my cpl tag is gone. I was under he impression that a 97 auto engine had a 180hp pump. correct?

as i am just swappin from a VE pump to the P7100 and I too would like to know any home grown "easy" assembly/timing tips anyone has come up with

ie initial bench setting for the pump if thats possible ( I do have a spare pump gear)

I will have the timing cover off during this proceedure if that makes things easier?

What millimeteres correlates to 16, 18, 20 degrees timing? as the chart provided doesnt go that high lol

this thread could become something to add to the sticky

thanx in advance for anyones time

I just find TDC, pull the pump gear, lock the pump pin and call it 12.5 then back up the crank however many more degrees I want to add using a degree wheel, then reinstall the pump gear. Works for me. Timing is relative anyway, I may be off a little...

aving read that table, and knowing none of the cpl's likely match my 88 VE motor, how does one know which of the various plunger lifts to use 4.9, 5.54, or 6.4 or something all together different?

thanx

now this timing pin-as I havent started yet am I to assume its just a pin that is stuck in the motor to be used for this occasion? I havent looked at it yet (as the truck is 1400 miles away, only work on it every now and again) so I just want to have a mental image before starting. Thanks guys
