P 7100 for instance I have read in some instances guys timing there's to 16 degrees and so fourth...

Can someone explain this and why it's done.
Can you time vp's like this or the ve's from the first gen.

Thank you for the input and info:tree:

timing is the point before TDC at which the injector fires,

VE and p-pumps are adjustable

vps' are not, the have varieable timing depends on conditions such as engine load, rpm, ambient temperature etc.

There needs to be a VP44 thread or even a section. This is being covered over and over again.

I'm sorry I didn't mean to try and over run this subject honestly...I had never quite understood the term..
What are advantages of timing a p pump to lets say sixteen degrees?

Lower egt's and more top end. The higher the timing though the higher up in the RPM's you'll make power but you'll sacrifice bottom end.

look at it this way.. diesel fuel can only burn so fast. The sooner you start the injection event the longer it has a chance to burn during the power stroke at high rpm.. that why a 12 valve with low timing will usualy pop at a high idle scenario where there is enough fuel, but the injecto is firing too late...
