Timming cover problem....

Installed my pump today and found the pump shaft hits the timming gear access cover...... so how'd I screw this up????

I had to take a break from frame and suspension work... so I worked on the timing gear cover and the clutch master cylinder actuating rod....

Make your cover out of thicker material and turn an indentation into the center to clear.
 
I don't see how the beef-up ring will clear the pump gear if it's mounted on the inside of the cover.
 
I made one a few years back like that and it cleared even with an adjustable hub.
 
UPDATE:

The ring clears the gear when installed on the inside...

when i did mine i put a hole where the nut hits at and got 3 weld 90s and made a new breather on the front
