Timning/ Timing Advance gauge?

They have timing lights that clamp onto your injection line and pulse when the injector fires.

These engines all have engine position sensors built in (minus the non-intercooled first gens).



I want a gauge that compares the injection line pulse with the engine position sensor signal to tell you how many degrees of timing advance you have. Is there such a thing?

A timing light in a gauge form.
 
The timing light will tell you how many degrees you have. You have to mechanically find TDC and mark it, them use the light to check degrees. The tach pickup on the 12 valve engines will not work for signaling TDC.
 
Once could install a magnet themselves to signal TDC then.


On trucks with dynamic timing, like VE's and VP's, it would be useful to know what your timing is in everyday operation for diagnostic and tuning purposes. To do it with a timing light would either require a dynometer or a small person inside the engine compartment.
