With 3.54's and 33's i can turn over 4k in 4th-low range, and a little under that with 2nd high on a good clay track.

I want a little more mph, but the cost of regearing is not an option right now. Thinking that if I go from 33" STS to a 35" BFG AT it wont bite as hard causing me to bog down, as well as the taller tire giving me more ground speed at the same RPM as I normally run.

Anyone try this and have good or bad results?

:hehe: I wish.

Sounds to me like you are on the right path, I would say run the 35's see the results.

LOL

yea this track is very tacky, with a heavy sled it will snuff stock turbo trucks. the STS's seem to use alot of power on that track

BTW-you cant text a brotha back?

yes, my normal go to gear for most tracks is 4th-low, if its loose ill run 2nd-high...and i suppose if it was extremely loose I could pull off direct gear which is 5th-low.

Changing tire size is for fine tuning. If you need more rpms or less i would go with a gear change then mess with the tire size. U need to figure out final drives and go for the rpms u want or need to carry down the track. Hope this helps ive only hooked once or twice in the past.:hehe:

4000 rpm
4th low 29.32 mph
2nd high 32.82 mph

3500 rpm
5th low 35.68 mph

I'm trying to figure out the same thing. I going to ditch the ProComps and go STS's. Trying to decide on size. My wheel speeds are close to what I posted for TJ but I have 3.73's. It just blows to tires away now.

How much more are you increasing your chances of breaking driveline parts by goin to 35's?

How many times have you tried 5th low?

none, i snuff the charger in 2nd high which is 11.9:1 final drive, 5th low is a 9.6:1, i could only pull it off on a super loose track, like dust or mud

with half worn bfg's on aluminum wheels i dont see it being a ton more stress than some good biting STS on heavy steel wheels. the rear driveline can take it- one piece DS with 1480 joints, mini spool, and larger 37 spline axles

changing to 4.10's would net me nothing that 3.54's cant do at this point, it just moves my 4th low ratio to 2nd hi, and my current 2nd-high ratio to 5th low.

next jump is 4.88's, leave me with only one gear ration to run and thats 5th-low

my rpms run right where i want them to, 3700-4200 depending on track conditions, what i am hoping to do is gain some MPH at those rpms by going to a tire that is 2" bigger. best of all the tires are free, but if its not going to gain me anything then i wont waste my time switching them out.

What you'll gain in tire size will be negated if they don't bite. I'd have to look at the charts I have at home but the difference in size is equal to half the difference between 4th low and second high. When you go to 5th low it's a bigger jump in final ratio.
