Well right now i am running 265/75/17 running stock wheels from a 07. I am trying to figure out if i bump up to a 285, will i gain more mpg by lowering rpms or will mpg go down since extra weight will be rotating. Any help would be appreciated
Also 3.55 gears 5 speed thanks

You also need to consider which tire you are runnin. I bought my truck with 285/70 16 (33in)Toyo MT's and they are 69 pounds each. I am wanting to switch to a 35x12.5x17 in either a ProComp xtreme all terrain or a Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ. I can get either one of those tires in the 35 and LOSE 4 pounds per wheel, between that and a new lighter weight rim and the larger diameter im hoping on a noticable increase in my MPG

When I bumped from 235/265's to 285's, my miliage went to crap by over 2-3 mpg. Rotating mass, resistance, and the air 6 of them catch shot me to hell. I didn't like them. I'm running 265's all the way around now and it is a bit better on mpg.
$.02

...AND...when towing heavy, the extra diameter while running 3:55 gears put my RPMs too low to drive the speed limit and spool on hills without killing 1,000,000 mositioes with soot. Now I have a Hamilton cam and that would work for ya if you go that way. Stock cam doesn't like 285's while towing #28,000 gross wieght.
